Trumpet Trees near Hall 11

Hello all!

Here are some photos of the place mentioned in the previous entry, courtesy of Yong Xiang.

Enjoy! =)

For the nature walk on 7 March 2009 (Saturday), we will be bringing you somewhere near that location. If you are lucky, the flowers would still be there but time does not wait! Better to visit the location soon before the flowers all fall off. ^^

For the photographers

If you enjoy photography, especially nature photography or is simply looking for a lovely place with picturesque surroundings, allow me to let you in on a little secret!

The trumpet trees are flowering now!

If you've read my previous entries, I have likened the trumpet trees to the Sakura of Singapore. When in full bloom, the whole tree is a burst of colour, usually in pink or white with the flowers lightly scattered beneath. It is simply a beautiful place for a shot or if you like, just enjoying the flowers and some pleasant company with yourself or others. My words here probably can't fully describe to you how it is like, you've got to see it for yourself. You don't even need to go very far. There are many trumpet trees within our NTU campus. Right now, the location I would suggest is this area next to hall 11. Just go there and take a look and you'll understand what I mean.

If you require, you can email me at earthlink-actmgr@ntu.edu.sg for more details. You can even try calling me along for a photoshoot and I'll be more than happy to tag along. You see, I enjoy nature photography myself! =)

Photoshoot Location: Area next to Hall 11

(P.S. Photos in this entry were old photos taken by Yong Xiang and were not taken at the area next to Hall 11)

Spring in NTU (Hall 5)

Spring has arrived at NTU! Well, technically speaking, Singapore does not really have the four seasons but the trees found within campus here often give us the feeling that we do. So, every once in a while, we still get to experience the different seasons!

This is a picture of a frangipani tree in full bloom taken along the covered walkway towards Hall 5. If you like frangipani trees, Hall 5 actually has a huge variety of them. There are those that are dark pink, light pink and white, yellow, white and orange... Such many different beautiful combinations!

Enjoy! =)

The ever-changing fig

If you've taken buses from the bus stop in front of the Innovation Centre, you might have noticed this very special tree just next to the bus shelter - our Heritage Tree!

So why is it so special? Is it only because it's a Heritage Tree?

Take a look at the picture below. Can you guess what it shows? I'll give you a hint - they're not the flower petals of the fig tree. Fig trees are given a name called "无花果" which when translated into English means fruits without flowers.

Personally, I thought this is a very special tree because of how different it looks as it goes through the various stages. The pictures below show the tree with its young leaves but if you were to head down and take a look at the tree now, the leaves have turned a much darker green.
